Youth Group

The North Shore Jewish Center Youth Group

The NSJC Youth Lounge is overflowing with enthusiastic teens and preteens enjoying themselves and participating in our award-winning youth program.

The program is composed of three groups, divided by age: Nitzanim (grades 5&6), Kadima (grades 7&8) and United Synagogue Youth or USY (grades 9-12). Our USY was recently awarded the title of METNY (Metropolitan New York) Chapter of the Year! Children do not need to be members of the synagogue to join however there is a differential in the cost of membership.

The Youth Group is a social and culturally rich program with something for everyone. Weekly activities range from arts and crafts, movie nights, coffee houses, talent nights, game nights, and leadership workshops, to talks on cults, drug awareness and the political climate in Israel. Dances and Shabbatons for USY and Kadima are held regularly, where our children join with hundreds of other Jewish children from throughout the metropolitan area. Many special events are offered as well such as NYC trips, Great Adventure trips and kayaking eco-adventures.

Other highlights include the annual Purim Carnival, visits to the pediatric floor at Stony Brook University Hospital and visits to a nursing home. The Youth Group also participates in Tikun Olam, a tzedakah program which raises money for charity and scholarships.
