addPhoto('P1and2web.JPG','Title: Ki Mitzion, Taystey Torah','Artists: Alban and Simon','Year: circa 1983','These two frames are unique and unusual for this sukkah. They were done in plaster and then painted over in dark brown to look like wood. The first panel holds the last two words of the Hebrew quotation, "Taytsay Torah" and the second panel has the beginning of the same Hebrew quote "Ki Mitzion". The design was most probably based upon traditional Jewish ark designs, especially from Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries. These panels were amongst those most in need of restoration. Fortunately they were fixed by the artist Mary Pirraglia and her committee(EH)

Translations: Panel 1: "Shall go forth Torah" Panel 2: "For from Zion"',"Ki Mitzion, Taystey Torah");

Based on the historic event of the secret rescue, (dubbed Operation Moses) by the Israeli government of Ethiopian Jews, which took place from November 19, 1984 through January 5, 1985.

English Text: OPERATION MOSES, rescue of the Ethiopian Jews, 1984-1985

Special Features: Operation Moses lettering at the top is in white as is the airplane flying over the scene. Near the top of the scene is a picture of Jerusalem, below that the Western Wall Plaza, below that the airplane flying over a blue body of water, and below that the hills and huts of the Jews in Ethiopia. There are two figures to the right of the huts, presumably Ethiopian priests in their white garments. The brilliant colors used in the depiction of Jerusalem stand in stark contrast to the sandy beige color of the Kotel’s plaza and the same-colored sands of Ethiopia.

Text by Elaine Hoffman',"Operation Moses");

The dove flying over the water is carrying an olive leaf in its mouth. Also of interest is the vine pattern (green leaves on brown stem) that surround both sides and the top of the picture.',"Noah’s Ark");

The relatively simple design was completed in one day. Weiner, Jim and Robin Adamski, Hilary Kramer, Roz Wolmetz and others.','Year: circa 1984','This was one of the original groups of panels done for the NSJC Sukkah around 1984. The words on the panel, are:
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp When you have
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp gathered in the fields
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp of the lands
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp you shall keep
&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp the feast of the Lord " (Leviticus 25:39
The inspiration for this panel and the entire Sukkah was the Deller Sukkah in Fischach, Southern Bavaria, done around 1823 and now housed in the Israel Museum. Of particular note is that the panels are only painted 2/3 of the way down, to create the impression, while seated in the Sukkah, that one is looking out of a window. Notice also the clouds across the top and the repeating pattern formed by the lulavs and etrogs if viewed sideways. (text by Elaine Hoffman)',"Lulav and Etrog");
